AXE Support
The purpose of this page is to provide basic support for AXE 3, in particular the AXE FAQ and issue list. The AXE documentation and our contact information are also available here. To ask questions or give feedback, please leave a comment on the developer blog at http://www.hwacha.net/axe_community.FAQ
1. What are the limits on the trial version of AXE?
The trial version of AXE 3 has ABSOLUTELY NO LIMITS! After 30 days, however, we would like you to register AXE if you want to keep on using it.2. Do you support AXE 2.1?
No, we don't. AXE 3 is better than 2.1 and there are some known (smallish) bugs in 2.1 that are fixed in 3. If you are using 2.1 you are advised to switch to the current version.3. Can I have a registration code for AXE 2.1?
Luckily, version 2.1 had a universal registration code. Enter 112029 and you can use it without being nagged. Enjoy! We would like to point out again that the current version (3.2) does much more stuff, much better, than 2.1.4. How can I bundle AXE for distribution with my own tools?
Simply email us at axe@jbrowse.com and ask. Please don't bundle AXE without asking, it can cause endless trouble.5. How can I get a customized version of AXE?
Simply email us at axe@jbrowse.com and ask. For a very small fee we can give you an AXE with your own brand on it.6. Does the reg code only work on one particular machine?
The reg code works on any machine, so with a single-user license you can install it on your home and work computer and you don't have to worry about changing hardware. Earlier versions of AXE were registered to a particular machine, but although this did prevent some piracy it was also inconvenient, so the system was changed. If you have an earlier version, download version 3.4 or above and it will work on any machine with the same reg code.Bug/Issue/Nonfeature List
1. There are various miscellaneous bugs in my version of AXE.
Make sure it's the latest version -- upgrades are free, just download them and run the installer. If the bug is still there, then please tell us and be rewarded with gratitude and acclaim. At this time there are no known bugs in the current version (3.4).2. I can't edit physical disks and physical RAM on Windows95/98/ME.
Although AXE supports the 95-like family of OSes, the design of these systems makes it difficult and, some would say, unwise to directly access disks and memory. Although it would be possible to make AXE edit physical disks on the '95' family of OSes, AXE is not being developed in that direction and the number of users still on these OSes is diminishing steadily.3. AXE leaves files in my TEMP directory.
In order to edit large files fast, AXE sometimes backs up its documents with files in the TEMP directory. They are reused over time and shouldn't build up. They are safe to delete, anyway.Documentation
